New ordinance hurts little guy
Watch those village board meetings. Once again steps are being taken in this town to guarantee that the little guy has a harder time running for office.
Mike Smith has suggested that the board look into the removal of political signs. The idea of requiring a deposit has been tossed around. This deposit in other towns ranges from $300 - $600 per person running for election. So, If 5 names are on 1 sign, then 5 people have to make the deposit each.
For those good people wishing to run for office they would have to raise that additional money for deposits just to put up signs. This works well for the established political parties or candidates who usually have a bank roll entering into election season but not for Joe Next door who has a minor campaign fund if any.
Look around town or even heading east on I-80 and see who's signs are still hanging out there.
